Immigration

Immigration is one of the controversial topics in the United States. Many citizens have debated and fought within the years whether or not undocumented people, aliens, foreigners, illegal immigrants, or whatever you wish to call should given amnesty for illegal immigrants. Americans believe we can’t afford any amnesty for illegal immigrants, while other citizens who do believe illegal immigrants should be given amnesty believe they are many benefits to having illegal aliens here and they can be used as assets.  There are roughly eleven to twelve million undocumented individuals living illegally in The United States. Many protesters are trying to stop these immigrants from continuing to live illegally here. While others citizens, disagree in deporting these foreigners from our home. Yet, these citizens fail to realize that we currently have a national debt of 18 trillion dollars The citizens who do believe immigrants should be given amnesty need to realize we don’t have the time or money to let these aliens live here freely. Americans need to worry about our own citizens first before dealing with others.
Aliens are defined as trespassing our country without legal permission and disobeying the law and requirements to enter the country legally. These citizens who oppose deporting undocumented people back to their homeland would agree that allowing aliens to live here freely would create more opportunities, (job opportunities).  “ In the last 12 months of our wonderful economic recovery, we have created 2.6 million new jobs” Even though our economy is progressively recovering, almost half of those 2.6 million new jobs are not full time (Butowsky 1).
It’s not just the economy’s financial problems our citizens have to worry. These “aliens” could be bringing unknown diseases to our country. These immigrants are over-populating our country. These foreigners can’t even financially invest into our country.  Immigrants aren’t useful or beneficial as many would think they are. Yet, many will disagree. “If these migrants are given a work permit and brought into the system, they will contribute $45 billion over five years in payroll taxes to the United States economy” These immigrants can be assets if wanted to (Kristoff 2). These migrants can be beneficial if given work permits. Yet, immigrants can put a burden on the U.S financially. Our nation has too many needs and wants, that giving amnesty to over 5 million illegal immigrants can increase our financial burden. We can’t afford giving amnesty to 5 million illegal aliens. We can’t afford it. It will cost us American taxpayers a fortune. American taxpayers have spent a fortune breaking up families and deporting the men and women who obviously just want to work and live freely with their families.
Our government shouldn’t give amnesty to illegal aliens. We shouldn’t give amnesty to those who are unlawfully present without legal permission. Americans shouldn’t reward them with amnesty for living here without legal permission. It’s not fair for those who actually obey the law and meet the requirements to enter the country legally. Not to mention the cultural differences we have. Not that it’s a bad thing but having immigrants divides up the country. The language barriers we have. It can sometimes lead to hostile situations.
Most believe that American should close the immigration gates because immigrants don’t have the skills or requirements to find a job here. That’s why most of them rely on welfare or any type of government aid at the expense of American taxpayers. They are also not enough jobs here for Americans, let alone immigrants. This will just cause more competition to find what jobs are available.
Crime can also increase. If any crime is committed by an undocumented person, they can simply flee back to their homeland.

  1. You make some compelling arguments on how immigrants are still not welcome in the United States. Great that you point out that before we can help any other countries people, we need to focus on the American citizens. Also, it's true that most of the jobs created in for immigrants have mostly been part-time instead of full-time jobs. Sometimes feeling sorry for someone will cause the demise of someone else. It's great how you use the evidence provided by the articles written by Kristof and Butowsky to prove your points. It's excellent that you also focus on the amount of illegal immigrants so you can paint a picture for the reader.

  3. Your argument is very clear and knowledgeable, like when you mention in the very end that an immigrant can commit a crime and easily flee the United States. As well as when you mention that United States citizens should be the ones we should focus on helping. Also, you did great analyzing both sides into your argument and no just being bias on one. Another great claim you mention that many who favor amnestying immigrants do not think of is that it is not fair for immigrants who actually arrive in the United States fairly. However, one can counter argue that if you amnesty immigrants they can be a huge positive investment that will eventually improve the United States.

  4. Illegal immigration brings with the threat of new diseases that might spread to Americans and increase crime rates committed by them. However, a comprehensive amnesty, as the majority of politicians in favor of a legalization have argued, will only be provided for those who have a clean record, speak the language, and have lived a certain amount of years in the country. That clears away the crime rates and the "language barrier" mentioned in the post. Amnesty is needed in order to bring the majority of the 11 million illegal immigrants out of the shadows in the United States. The "hostile situations" can be avoided if every citizen leaves aside the racism and erratic mentalities that stop them from interacting with illegal immigrants. Amnesty is affordable, it is capable of happening, but it has not occurred because racism and fear of other cultures' influences persists in our country.

  5. Throughout the essay you give good examples why we cannot give amnesty to the 11-12 million undocumented immigrants living in the united states. The biggest example in your essay argues about the financial aspects immigrants bring to our all ready struggling American citizens. You also argue about the laws being broken and diseases undocumented immigrants bring into our country. Nevertheless, you're only arguing why the U.S should not to give amnesty to illegal immigrants. What is your solution too the illegal immigrants all ready living here? Is it self deportation, work permits, massive deportations? Your last two paragraphs begging to touch the subject but are bit underdeveloped.

  6. The side of the argument you stand by is clear and precise throughout the essay. However, adding a paragraph on why amnesty could help than counter arguing it would make your argument stronger. It was a great idea adding how if illegal immigrants come into America illegally than who knows if they will follow any laws the United States has. Also the ending to your essay didn't come off as a conclusion. Possibly ending the essay with a theory or statement on how crime rate could increase if amnesty was given to illegal immigrants.

  7. Your argument has really good examples on why granting illegal immigrants amnesty is not in America's budget. However, when you state "Crime can also increase. If any crime is committed by an undocumented person, they can simply flee back to their homeland." you should have backed it up with a fact or an example. You can not correlate one thing to the other because there is not a fact to back up your statement

    1. This piece really educates the audience of the topic in a clear and concise way. Although amnesty is a possible solution to the immigration crisis, those who entered America illegally must be held accountable for their actions. It is true that America is a nation of immigrants, but it is also a nation of laws as well. Citizens must obey the law, and if foreigners would like to be a part of this country, they must obey the law too. The issue of crime is an interesting argument, but criminal activity is all over the world. It is really tough to tell if immigration is the cause of a higher crime rate.

  9. Your argument is very clear and gives good examples to why amnesty should not be granted to illegal immigrants. I agree with your perspective as to why amnesty shouldn't be granted to immigrants. But you should look at both sides a little more because it will be easy to counter argue against the key points in which you present. You touch base on some good points but wasn't deep enough. Other than that, good essay I agree that these immigrants will bring more than just finical issues such as drugs and diseases.

  10. Granting amnesty may not seem affordable but it can be. You did s great job by showing what side it is that you're on. But the only problem here is that not all illegal immigrants can just flew away that commits a crime. American citizens can also do the same. Crime will be done regardless if amnesty is granted or not. Take a look at America right now.

  11. You kept quoting and unquoting "aliens." Making it confusing to understand whether or not you agreed with the usage of the term overall. You kept bouncing back to and from granting amnesty to immigrants and not granting amnesty to immigrants so it got confusing and it was at times difficult to keep up with. The flow could have been better and the conclusion as well. You mention a lot of good points, however the importance of those claims was not stressed enough. You last paragraph was one sentence, that one sentence was a claim with no type of evidence whatsoever. You should've backed that claim with some reasoning because it can be easily contradicted considering that it's just your opinion with no type of logic or ethos behind it to support it.

  12. It is good to see that you understand both sides of the argument. You supported both sides of it with a plethora of quotes. Although your position is a bit unclear you do explain your thoughts and your own idea. Illegal immigration is a huge controversy that will affect many, but it is not easy to argue for or against.

  13. You provide some very interesting points, but your introduction to your argument was very unclear and it was difficult to understand what position you were taking on the subject. Along with that, you ended your argument with a very weak and unsupported statement about crime. Whether or not crime is brought to the U.S. regardless, the majority of crime in the U.S is created by U.S. citizens themselves and shouldn't be something major to point out.

  14. Agreeably in some cases, those in power of decision making should worry about helping the citizens of America. Living the life of an American however is much more stress free because we have a wide variety of opportunities here. So why not share that opportunity with those who can't afford to in there own country. Majority of illegal immigrants just want to be successful and provide for their own. Those that are just here causing trouble should have their privilege to be here taken and that spot should be given to another who really wants it
